Prof. Dr. med. Mazda Farshad is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the most complex spine surgery procedures. He is surgeon in chief and medical director of the Balgrist University Hospital and professor and chair of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Zurich.

Prof. Farshad’s current research interests are patient-specific biomechanical modelling and novel strategies of surgical task executions such as augmented reality-based navigation. He overlooks and is actively involved in further areas of musculoskeletal research such in the fields of biomechanics, muscle plasticity and computer science in orthopaedics. He has initiated and leads the University Medicine Zurich flagship project SURGENT (Surgeon Enhancing Technologies).
